Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament

2 years ago, I was nervous going into the AIMS games tournament, taking on 31 different schools from around the country to be crowned the Intermediate Rugby sevens champs of New Zealand. I remember the very thoughts going through my mind before the grand final. "Am I good enough", "Are we going to win?", "Am I going to get injured?". All very normal feelings leading into a big game. Imagine that feeling, times ten.

After 4 months of intense training I am preparing to take off to Japan to battle it out in the annual Sanix World rugby tournament. My school won the right to do so by winning the National top four final last year against Otago boys. I am leaving tomorrow with huge excitement as well as a nervous feeling in my stomach. Knowing that I will be representing New Zealand alone is a huge honour, and I will do my very best to make sure we give others a very good impression.

We are staying overseas for the whole school holiday period of two weeks. I am looking forward to the challenge as well as being very thankful for the oppurtunity to be apart of such an event. This is an experience I know I will never forget, and I thank God for blessing me with this gift.

Tauranga Journey Of A life Time

Just wondering how to start this story, it is so hard to explain how I felt and how much I loved being there. Well I will start off, the greatest experience of my life began when I arrived in Tauranga on Monday last week. Why you asked? Well our school sevens team coach Ms. Va’afusuaga thought that we had enough talent and skills to head down to one of the most anticipated events for schools around New Zealand, the New Zealand Aims Games Competition.

The thing was that I was supposed to head down with the sevens team on Sunday, but I was sick so I had to head down the next day. I was happy to know that I managed to stay awake the whole ride down from Auckland to Tauranga. And seeing the boys again really got me happy again. When we arrived I saw a nice big Marae which we were going to sleep in for the week. We were offered nice cozy mattresses by the Marae which ensured we would fall into nice deep sleeps!
After unpacking my things we headed down to the fields to see what kind of fields we would be playing on. We looked around and then headed off to different club grounds and started training. We were pretty sharp with our game p,an and trained well. We covered what we wanted to and then headed back to the Marae. We then ha showers and relaxed for a while.

After a while we had a delicious dinner of roasted chicken with potato, kumara and vegetables. Everyone enjoyed the meal which was cooked by Miss V’s sister Annie who was helping us out when we were down there. After our lovely meal we relaxed in the Marae.

Moments later we were told we were going to be doing some group games and activities. So later on in the night we started our games and activities. We were asked to name our groups and my group called themselves, “The Wackers”. We had a lot of fun that night playing all sorts of funny outrageous games. We then were told to go bed we did and were cozy on our mattresses!

Point England VS Ferguson Intermediate

Last week on Wednesday our Point England sevens team went up against a very tough Ferguson school, we managed to beat them 29-5 although Ferguson's defence was very strong we scored five tries! Check out our highlights!!!

P.E Survive First Knock Out Round

Just last week on a wet Friday afternoon a shell shocked Tamaki Intermediate were defeated by a determined Point England side losing 29-7. We played with a lot of heart and courage and were able to thrash them on the score board.

The amazing thing about this game was that we had not trained or played together for 3-4 weeks!!! Another thing was that Tamaki were high in the rankings for this years championship school Competition.

At the beginning of the game we were forced to defend our area and came out successful, forcing them to knock it on just before the line. Luckily we were powerful enough to get to the other side of the field with Raven able to score in the corner making it 5-0!! Not long after Tamaki kicked it off to us and I caught the ball and ran towards the line BOOM!! I broke the line and was off!! Unfortunately I was caught 20 short of the line and my team was right behind me. Taking runs from the ruck our first five Jonty called a move. Running my hardest I crashed over the line and scored, YYYYYEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!! The crowd of students roared converting the try Raven made it 12-0.

Secretly Tamaki had a secret weapon waiting on the bench. He was a monstrous forward who is currently playing for my league team (Mount Wellington Warriors), VINCENT!!!! After we had scored two tries their Weapon (Vincent) had just come on to the field. It was Tamaki’s ball, we formed a scrum kind of knowing that Vincent was going to take it from the back of the ruck. So I yelled out “WATCH VINCENT!!!” Though our team knew he was running he still managed to make a barnstorming run down the right side surging through our defense. Luckily we were able catch up to him and slow him down, he seemed unstoppable until our Number.8 Junior went flying into the air and crashed landed on Vincent who was finally put on the ground. Then again our determined team were able to make it to the opposition try line with another try to me!!

After that we had scored two more marvellous tries with Feki intercepting the ball to race 60 m for a try and Prop Semiliu crashing over from close range to make the final score 29-7.

Well done boys for playing such a game, hopefully we can do the same in the next game!!!

Yr7 Rugby: Never Give Up

Point England played their first ever intermediate match with Year seven boys in our history. We played against St Marys. We had quite a rough game. They had some huge boys who caused a problem for our team, but we managed to make some spectacular tackles which gave us a bit of pride in ourselves. We gave it a certain amount of an effort but it wasn't enough to take down the big boys. But we did manage to make a movie of our fantastic highlights. Take a look!!
